our history

Our branch held its first meeting on 17th October 1990 and was started by Mrs Gravett, Enid Hodgson and Stan Wilson.  It covers the area known as West Cumbria although we are happy to welcome anyone to our club as long as they join Parkinson’s UK.

For over 25 years the branch has done much to support and sustain its members.  Those who have been unable to attend meetings have been kept in touch by telephone and monthly newsletter.

Branch campaigning succeeded in the appointment of a Specialist Nurse and together with the two Parkinsons’ UK LAPs, patients and carers are well provided with friendly medical and welfare support.

We provide a programme of monthly meetings with speakers, social evenings and outings, alongside regular updates on all aspects of medical and research matters.
